Cross Ange Episode 4

Episode 4 of Cross Ange begins with Jill going over Ange's kill ratio for her first three missions and she's rather impressed, especially since Ange has been racking up the kills in the Vilkiss, which no other Norma could use without things going horribly wrong. We then cut to Ange kicking ass and everyone else (especially Hilda) being still pissed off over how Ange's earlier actions got several people (Zola and Miranda especially) killed, and they refuse to work with Ange in taking down DRAGONS, but Ange has gotten to the point she doesn't give three shits what they think. We then cut back to Salia wanting to pilot the Vilkiss instead to prove she's more effective than the hated yet gifted newbie, but Jill tells her to drop the subject and Salia complies. Once the room just has Jill and Jasmine (the only woman on base who looks reasonably old and sensibly dressed) in it, Jasmine immediately calls Jill out on her manipulative tendencies and Jill owns up to it, adm...

TV Tropes: where you have no privacy.

One of the things I find creepy and infuriating about TV Tropes is the fact Fast Eddie has full access to your private messages, quite possibly as you are typing them, whenever he wants. For those who don't know why that's a bad thing, here's a hypothetical: He passes a decision you and a friend don't like, but you want to be smart and swap notes on how to peacefully object to the change and convince him to reconsider. He gets wind you might be a 'traitor", reads your PMs, and next thing you and your buddy know, you are suddenly "Google bounced" and can't even read the site, and you have no idea why. If that sounds the slightest bit scary or disturbing, it should, because that means you have zero privacy, even though the feature is called "PRIVATE Messaging". Now, to be absolutely honest, wikis are not platforms designed with privacy in mind, and even though most people are wise enough not to put private info on public pages, any p...

Just watched the third episode of Cross Ange, pleasantly surprised.

After the first two episodes of Cross Ange gave us back to back rape scenes and badly executed fanservice, I was kinda wondering what they'd force us to endure with the third episode. To my surprise, it was a LOT better. The first half of the episode begins where the second episode left off, with Ange still wanting to haul ass even after getting someone killed in the process, and even though she almost does get shot for her trouble, the actual battle commences (and the mecha fight scene wasn't too bad, somewhat like Macross as interpreted through a Gundam lens), and Ange crashes into Zola in her fear of getting killed, they crash, and as Ange barely survives, she wakes up to find Zola's blood all over her, and in a scene I thought was quite dramatic, Zola's cybernetic eye lands right in Ange's lap. The fanservice took a backseat and instead decided to focus on the "War is Hell" aspect, and wow, I was impressed. Later, we get to see the banged up An...

Something about shit the TVT mods can do that makes me rage

Warning: Angry post below. I decided to see how TV Tropes viewed the anime Cross Ange after doing my little review of it , and I noticed several time when their moderators kept thumping certain posts because it discussed topics they didn't want discussed (like the ongoing rape theme in the show) even if the topic was utterly valid BECAUSE THERE IS A THEME OF RAPE IN THE SHOW. I just want to say, right here, right now, I consider the TV Tropes moderators to be some of the most cowardly, bitchmade faggots when it comes to this sort of thing. Hell, they aren't so different from Something Awful moderators in this regard, as both sites have assholes who punish and censor wrongthink. Well, to both groups, I just want to say something: Fuck you. I do understand a possible reason for not wanting to allow that topic to be discussed on TVT, since it might piss off their advertisers, but if that's the case, the TVT moderators are even more pathetic than I thought for taking ...

Cross Ange, mecha anime in hideously bad taste

I recently decided to check out one of the newest mecha anime, Cross Ange, and while I was already leery given I heard it was a fanservice fest directed by the same guy who did Gundam Seed Destiny, I figured, what the hell, let's see what the first few episodes are like. I saw the first two, and dear god, this makes Kill La Kill look good by comparison, and I thought that one was in bad taste as well. We first begin with a brief mecha fighting sequence, which obviously is Gundam inspired, then after this in medias res scene we get on with the actual story. The story is about some Magitek kingdom where everyone can use Mana (magic), and those that can't are considered third class citizens. The story goes at lightning speed in the first episode, when we just barely get properly introduced to Angelina (our protagonist), then her father is deposed in a coup, her mother shot, and she is revealed as a Norma (someone who can't use magic). This whole scene sets the tone for...

Laughing into my hands at Fast Eddie's incompetence

This thread from TV Tropes is proof positive no one there has a clue what the hell they are talking about concerning their own site software. Apparently, they really need a script to migrate pages from one namespace to another, which basically means moving a bunch of pages from corner of the wiki to another, and according to Fighteer (who supposedly knows computer programming), this cannot be done at this point, and some other certified idiot says batch scripts can crap out the server. As for Fighteer, thanks for proving you are incompetent I took you for, as Brent Laabs wrote a Perl script to do the dump of TV Tropes you had the gall to call a DDoS attack, and has written several more (in conjunction with the MediaWiki::Bot Perl script) to do things like namespace migration, and was doing most of this by hand even before he found that MediaWiki::Bot script for All The Tropes, so WOW, thanks for proving you know nothing about coding despite your supposed job. Also, PmWiki is writ...

It's been around a year, ATT is still here, and I want to thank all who made it possible

Around a year ago, All The Tropes opened for business with the bold and daring plan to create an alternative troping site for the disenchanted ex-TV Tropers to trope on and for those who didn't want to get anywhere near Fast Eddie or his minions because they didn't want to edit on a wiki where you can get banned for the dumbest reasons and where perversion and some of the more sad aspects of fandom pollute the internet with messed up drivel. Our goals were lofty, but we decided that to stay open for more than a little while, we had to radically alter our approach if we wanted to avoid the perversion and fail that has rightly made TV Tropes a laughingstock in the eyes of many, and this post is a massive thank you to various parties I credit with our success: The Drunkard's Walk forums : In many ways, they were the birthplace of ATT, and where we came up with many of our founding goals and principles. It was there we hammered out most of our basic policies, established ou...
